Minutes of the First Meeting


            At a meeting of the delegates of the churches composing the Association as described by the Paint Union Association as will more full appear by reference to the Minutes having met agreeable to appointment as the Salem Church Meeting House, Wayne County, Virginia, on the first Saturday in November 1848 and then and there adopted their Constitution and Rules of Decorum. The draft being presented by Brother John Borders.


            Then ordered that this Association shall be called and known by the name of the Zion Association and that the first Association be held at the Salem Church Meeting House in Wayne County, Virginia, Friday before the fourth Saturday in August 1849 consisting of the delegates of the different Churches to wit Comfort, Zion, Salem, Kies Creek, Silver Creek, and Rock Castle.
